The new targets include a 20% reduction in emissions by 2030, a 70% reduction by 2040 (compared to 2008 levels), and the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The FuelEU initiative is included in the Fit for 55 package. The agreement aims to reduce ship emissions by 2% starting in 2025, reaching 80% by 2050 to assist the European Union in achieving climate neutrality.
It is important to note that this agreement is provisional and still needs approval from the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the European Council and the Committee on Transport and Tourism of the European Parliament, followed by approval from the Parliament and the Council as a whole
